13 Dishes for 2013

10 Jan

New year, new beginnings. I love making resolutions and taking on new projects, but I also dislike failing to meet those goals. So, for 2013 I’m keeping it simple: yoga twice/week and stay optimistic. That’s something I can achieve.

Oaxacan Chilies

January is also a good time to be excited about new dishes to cook and share on EatingPlaces, so…

I need your help! I’m putting together a list of 13 new-to-me dishes to cook in 2013 and I’d love your suggestions.

These foods can be anything from drinks and apps to main courses and desserts, but I’d like for them to be distinctly from a cuisine around the world. Fusion recipes are great (e.g. Indian/British Chicken Tikka Malsala), as are regional specialties (like New England Clam Chowder!).

Can you help me out? Leave a comment below and I’d love to add your dish to the list.

Thanks!

Liz

I LOVE this idea (and might steal it if you don’t mind)! My suggestion would be an Ox Tail Stew or Babootie. Both are South African dishes my mom used to make!

Sounds like a fun idea ! I know one of the new to me recipes would be a risotto – i have never tackled that …i also am obsessed with the barbacoa at chipotle and would like to recreate it at home some how ! Another idea is that I used to love a jewish dish kugel growing up and think that it would be amazing to recreate it some day as an adult. good luck!

Thanks for all the great ideas! I LOVE making risotto, but I’ve never actually written about it on my blog – thanks for the reminder! It’s a very forgiving dish, I definitely recommend giving it a try. I love barbacoa from Chipotle, too. I very rarely eat meat when I’m out, but I will eat that. And YES kugel as well! One of my favorite dishes from my grandma.

      Thanks again for the recommendations!

I completely support Renee! I was trying to think of something from my family’s culture and Oxtail Stew is where it’s at. It’s a popular West Indian dish, which I’ve only cooked once myself. I’d be down for a cooking date w/ photos included! Oxtail stew beside some rice and beans with a side of steamed veggies!!

I’ve heard amazing things about Oxtail Stew and it seems to be a favorite dish from all over the world, so I’m excited to research where it comes from and what the variations are.

That sounds like a fantastic meal and plan!

How about making some Filipino food?? http://www.confessionsofachocoholic.com/recipes/round-up-of-filipino-recipes I am about to make some champorado (chocolate rice pudding), I bet you would like that, too :)

Thanks Bianca! I missed this post. You’re completely right, chocolate rice pudding is exactly my kind of dish!
