I enjoyed researching an October SSL that was all about food in art, so for today’s list I’m sharing a few van Gogh paintings that highlight food and the process of gathering food.
These images are from an online collection called The Vincent Van Gogh Gallery, which has a comprehensive biography of van Gogh and a giant collection of paintings. I highly recommend checking it out if you’re interested in the artist.
The paintings below are listed in chronological order. Van Gogh was born in March of 1853, so to give some context, the first painting titled Potato Digging (Five Figures) was made when he was 30 years old (considered to be an early work). The style we typically associate with van Gogh doesn’t surface until the last few years of his life. He died in 1890 at the age of 37.
